Diogenes The Dog

  • Address: 96 Rodney Road, SE17 1BG.
  • What our audience thinks: 'A wonderful spot with great staff who really know their stuff. Incredible wine list that makes you want to keep trying and delicious snacks on the side. I loved it'.

In Elephant & Castle, Diogenes the Dog takes a modern approach to wine. This quirky neighbourhood bar and bottle shop is found just shy of Elephant and Castle, championing small-scale producers and lesser-known regions, offering an exciting alternative to mainstream choices.

This top London wine bar has an emphasis on up-and-coming wine regions and unusual winemaking techniques is reflected in a wine list imported directly from far afield areas of the globe. Grab a seat in their cosy, plant-filled space and let the staff guide you through their standout selection - paired expertly with cheese plates, cured meats and more. For date night? We especially recommend this one.

Renegade Urban Winery

  • Address:  Unit 7, Lockwood Way, E17 5RB
  • What our audience thinks: 'Fabulous lunch. Fish cooked to perfection with a delicious beurre blanc sauce. Simple food cooked well the way to go. Enjoyed tasting the interesting wines produced by Renegade.

Renegade Urban Winery is a fresh take on serving wine in the city, located in Walthamstow, with a sister site in Bethnal Green, serving some of London's best pours. Not only do they offer tours and tastings (of their own wines), but you can also munch on a seasonally-changing menu, impressive roasts and tasty charcuterie boards from the mezzanine or the laidback outdoor area. It's modern and industrial inside, which is a bit of a steer from your usual take on a cosy wine bar, but we appreciate its unique approach, and love the service here.

Aspen and Meursault

  • Address: 96 Westbridge Rd, London SW11 3PH.
  • What our audience thinks: 'Beautiful wine bar, really unique wine, staff always attentive and really knowledgeable. I absolutely love going there. One of the best wine bars there are.'

From the creators of the award-winning bar Diogenes the Dog, Aspen & Meursault is a Battersea wine bar serving both looks and bottles. A menu of cured meats, oysters, and even boozy cheeses is supported by a list of low-intervention wines celebrating the very best of organic or biodynamic processes and techniques.

What user Laurence had to say about Aspen & Meursault - "Everything you'd look for in a wine bar. Beautiful decor, great wine and knowledgable staff" - January 2024

Vinoteca Borough Yards

  • Address: 18 Stoney St, London SE1 9AD.
  • What our audience thinks: 'Great place to spend an afternoon, good service, good food and great wines. Unhurried and friendly.'

Whether it's after-work drinks or a long Sunday lunch, Vinoteca delivers on all fronts. With locations all across London - including Borough Yards, King's CrossCityFarringdon and beyond - this versatile spot combines a fantastic wine list with a menu packed full of hearty European dishes (such as padron peppers).

Their retail section also means you can grab a bottle (or three) to take home, while cosy date nights are a given with the intimate ambience. We particularly like their Borough Yards site, bringing a unique vibe once shopping amongst the market (given that it's right in the middle of it). Sit down and watch other shoppers continue to still browsing, on either the ground or second foor.

Prosecco House

  • Address: 1 Crown Square One Tower Bridge, London SE1 2SE.
  • What our audience thinks: 'This was a wonderful pre-theatre place to grab a drink. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable about prosecco. We had a great time and will definitely be back!'.

This Tower Bridge wine bar is one of the first ever bars dedicated to highlighting all things fizz. Focusing primarily on prosecco (primarily produced in North East Italy), they celebrate high-quality bottles and sparkling wines. They highlight key Italian wineries, and complement this focus with a small selection of nibbles from nocarella olives to black olive tapenade and salami.

It's a plush and high-end spot for drinking, with crushed velvet complementing the cool chrome, found supporting 100s of bottles of wine on the back bar. Therefore, in our opinion? Definitely a must for date nights and impressing a business client.

St Pancras Bar and Brasserie

  • Address:  Upper Concourse, Euston Road, N1C 4QL.
  • What our audience thinks: 'Had a wonderful afternoon. The food, champagne and company were excellent and we were thrilled by the care and attention paid to us by the staff. Thank you for looking after us so well'.

Offering a range of crisp and refreshing wines, Searcy's at St Pancras also just happens to be Europe's longest Champagne bar, with a sister venue in Battersea. Pull up a seat in the historic station setting at this Euston wine bar, soak in the stunning architecture and get to work on sampling some of the fantastic sparkling sips as you watch commuters get to grips with boarding their trains and hustling home from work. You'll be having a lot more fun than them, we promise.

The Olde Wine Shades

  • Address:   6 Martin Lane, EC4R 0DP.
  • What our audience thinks: 'What a pleasure! No changes since 1976 when I last visited though you have draft beer now. Food simple and good and welcome changes in the wine list too. Lovely!'.

The Olde Wine Shades is a traditional wine bar in London with plenty of history. Not only s it one of the only buildings in the area to have survived The Great Fire, it's also associated with the historic smuggling trade, meaning that with a glass of wine in hand? You're sure to get an experience when stepping through the doors.

It's one of the oldest wine bars in the city, which means that it respects heritage, and offers a really interesting menu of wines, across a vast portion of European regions. We recommend you pair your glass, or bottle, with one of their tapas dishes too.

Davy's Wine Vaults

  • Address: 161, Greenwich High Road, SE10 8JA.
  • What our audience thinks: 'Such a good venue, beautiful wines'.

Davy's are a name synonymous with wine, and have been over 50 years in business, celebrating pours. Their Greenwich wine bar is one of a kind, brimming with light and bright dining rooms, a cosy basement bar with with booths and bar brick, along with a garden, filled with original features and wine antiques.

Davy's Wine Vaulrs have over 100 wines for you to choose from, many of which can be served by the glass, and even have a wine shop next door, should you be interested in topping up your at-home wine collection.

Champagne Charlies

Pre-theatre Meal

  • Address: 17 The Arches,, Villiers Street, WC2N 6NG.
  • What our audience thinks: 'I absolutely love this wine bar, the service is exceptional, our birthday reception was lovely and the food tasty and piping hot. Thank you to everyone who made it special for us.'

A cosy wine bar located beneath the arches of Charing Cross, Champagne Charlies specialises in all things British bites and crisp glasses of wine from Davy's Wine Merchants. It's a shoo-in for after-work drinks and private events, with a range of dining rooms available for hire and seasonal cuisine in a cool, historic basement setting.

Champagne Charlie's is definitely a recommendation from us if you want a top London wine bar with that 'ye olde' feel, you'll sip amongst bar bricks and antiques, and definitely be promised a sommelier in service who knows their stuff.

The Boot and Flogger

  • Address: 10-20, Redcross Way, London SE1 1TA.
  • What our audience thinks: 'The place is super cool and the staff is lovely. Also took the time to explain the history of the pub, and the origins of the name.'

One of London's first real wine bars with hundreds of years of history under its belt, this old-school offering in London Bridge brings you hearty British food and a fantastic drinks list.

Easy to get to after a quick shop in Borough Market, The Boot and Flogger is historic, having opened back in 1965 as the original Davy's Wine Bar, pouring fine wine by the glass. Weave through what they call a 'labyrinth' of dining rooms and bars, all decorated with exposed brick, original wood panels and more. Definitely one for the history enthusiasts.

The Mug House

  • Address: 1-3, Tooley Street, SE1 2PF.
  • What our audience thinks: 'I always enjoy my time in The Mug House, as the choice of wines is great and the staff are always very helpful and friendly.'

Looking to be straight out of a Dickens novel thanks to corners, ceilings and walls covered in vintage items and antiques, The Mug House is a charming London Bridge wine bar.

While offering a menu of à la carte classics that promise British favourites such as sausage and mash, this place is also known for its extensive wine selection, as supplied by Davy's Wine Merchants, with staff on hand to advise on the perfect pairing.

El Vino Blackfriars

  • Address: 30 New Bridge Street, EC4V 6BJ.
  • What our audience thinks: 'A great lunch with very good wine and food! The current Spanish offering from Navarre is well selected and an intensely powerful number of fruit-driven flavoured wines.'

El Vino is a collection of London wine bars dotted all about the city, from London Bridge to Fleet Street and beyond. Their Blackfriars is a favourite of ours, not only because it's a great starter before walking over the Millenium Bridge to take in art at the Tate Modern, but because it pays homage to old-world wines in a comfortable, but traditional setting. It's a simple but charming wine cellar bar, but has plenty of character from the wine menu, to the interiors.
